Greetings!  I’m Laurin, an OB/GYN resident at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.  I grew up in Southern California, where I swam competitively, surfed poorly, and developed an interest in medical science hanging around my parents’ laboratory.  I did my undergraduate studies at Harvard College in Cambridge, MA, where I was also a member of the swim team.  After college I worked in stem cell research in San Francisco.  I joined the Dolphin Club during this time and successfully completed a solo swim across the English Channel in 8 hours and 33 minutes.  I went to medical school at the University of Colorado in Denver, where I met a boy and fell in love.  Brian, my husband, is also in residency at Loma Linda, training to be an Interventional Radiologist.  We matched together and now live in the small town for which our medical center is named.

I have overcome a number of personal struggles in my life and have developed a deep respect for balance.  I’ve come to discover that a fabulous life isn’t about working long hours to generate fame and amass a fortune.  A fabulous life is about having balance: a good and honorable career, wealth enough to be comfortable, an appreciation for the finer things, the health and vitality to experience them, and family and friends to share it all.  That’s why I developed this blog – to share my thoughts, tips, and secrets on how to keep in balance, how to have it all, in the context of a demanding career.  I hope you enjoy and pick up a little piece here and there to add to your own repertoire of fabulousness.
